Life in Our Community.
What We Provide
Welcome to The Nest: A Safe Place to Land
A pregnant woman in crisis has a long list of fears and concerns, and a safe place to live is at the top of the list. The Nest is more than just a place to stay. It is a warm, welcoming six-bedroom home in Vancouver, offering safety, stability, and community to unsupported women who are pregnant or in the early months of motherhood. For many, The Nest represents a turning point—a place where hope is restored, relationships are built, and the journey into motherhood begins with support, dignity, and care.
A Home Built on Community and Respect
At The Nest, we focus on building a sense of community that feels like an extended family. Living here means you’re never alone. You are always surrounded by others who truly understand what you’re going through because they’re walking a similar path.
Empathy, respect, and cooperation form the foundation of life at The Nest. Each woman is valued for who she is, and we all contribute to maintaining the home environment together. This shared responsibility encourages ownership, accountability, and a feeling of pride in the home we create together.
Support Every Step of the Way
Two of our six bedrooms are home to our live-in caregivers—compassionate and dedicated volunteers who play a vital role in the daily life of The Nest. These women build meaningful relationships with residents and help create a home atmosphere that is nurturing and consistent. Whether it’s helping with grocery shopping, assisting with meal planning, offering encouragement after a tough day, or simply being a listening ear, our caregivers are a steady presence in the house.
In addition to our caregivers and staff, The Nest is blessed with a team of volunteers—strong, empathetic women who dedicate their time to walk alongside you in your journey into motherhood. They offer support in a variety of ways, such as:
- Teaching basic parenting and baby-care skills
- Offering one-on-one budgeting guidance
- Cooking and meal prep tutorials
- Accompanying you on walks with your baby
- Listening without judgment and helping you plan for your future
Their presence ensures that you are not navigating this life stage alone, but rather with someone by your side who genuinely cares.
Family Meal Night: A Cherished Tradition
Once a month, our home is filled with the rich aromas of home-cooked meals and the joyful sounds of laughter and conversation during our beloved Family Meal Night.
It’s not just about food; it’s about building deeper connections. As we gather around the table, we learn more about each other’s stories, traditions, and dreams. These evenings often become a source of inspiration and joy, strengthening the bonds of friendship and fostering a sense of belonging that extends far beyond the dinner table.
More Than Shelter: A Foundation for the Future
At The Nest, we understand that becoming a mother is one of the most transformative experiences a woman can go through—and it often comes with emotional, physical, and financial challenges. That’s why we offer more than just a safe place to stay. We provide a holistic support system that addresses the full range of needs a new mother may face.
What You’ll Find at The Nest:
- A Safe, Clean, and Comfortable Living Space: Each resident has her own private room, and the shared areas are maintained collectively to ensure everyone feels comfortable and respected.
- Food Security: Access to nutritious food is essential, especially during pregnancy postpartum recovery. You will be supported with grocery-shopping, budgeting and healthy meal planning during your stay.
- Emotional Support: Whether you need someone to talk to during a late-night feeding or encouragement during a challenging moment, support is always nearby.
- Parenting Education and Life Skills: There are weekly, in-house information sessions that cover topics from diaper-changing basics to financial literacy to equip you in your road to independence.
- Connection to Community Resources: We’ll help you find and access the community services you need, whether it’s healthcare, legal support, education, or childcare services.
Healing Through Shared Experience
Motherhood can feel isolating at times, especially when faced without the support of family or community. But at The Nest, you’ll find a group of women who understand you because they are going through the same thing. This shared experience is powerful—it fosters mutual encouragement, reduces feelings of loneliness, and promotes healing.
As you bond with other residents over sleepless nights, baby milestones, and morning cups of tea, you begin to feel part of something bigger.
Growth That Lasts a Lifetime
The Nest is not just a temporary solution. It’s a launching pad. Our goal is to help each woman build the confidence, skills, and support systems she needs to move forward in life and live independently.
As you grow as a mother, you’ll also grow as a person. Through meaningful relationships, gentle encouragement, and shared responsibility, many of our residents leave The Nest with stronger self-esteem, a clearer sense of purpose, and the knowledge that they are capable of creating a bright future for themselves and their children.
And even after residents move on, they remain part of the Nest family. Many come back to visit, offer support to current residents, or attend special gatherings. Once you are part of The Nest, you are part of something lasting.
In the Words of Our Residents
Sometimes, the most powerful testimony comes from the women who have called The Nest home:
“Being a resident of The Nest has helped me tremendously. For one, it has allowed me to be at peace, which I lacked for a long time.”
“There are always faces for my baby to interact with—it makes a big difference.”
You Belong Here
If you are a pregnant woman or new mother seeking a safe and supportive place to live while you find your feet, The Nest may be the interim home you’ve been hoping for. We’re here to walk alongside you as you step into motherhood, offering friendship, guidance, and a community that truly cares.
