Help Moms in Our Home.
Become a Volunteer
You can make a lasting difference in the lives of mothers facing one of life’s most vulnerable and transformative times. Pregnancy and early motherhood are filled with emotion, hope, and challenge—but for some women, their decision to become a mother puts their housing at risk. As they approach their due date, pressure mounts and there is a timeline to get ready for baby. Without stable housing the journey can be overwhelming. By volunteering at the Nest, you can be part of a powerful support system that helps create a safe, nurturing environment where mothers can focus on what matters most, their newborns.
Babies grow up quickly and first-time mothers learn as they go. Through regular visits, volunteers at the Nest become known and trusted. Babies become familiar with their faces and their voices. Over the first year of baby’s life, a close-knit community that feels like family develops. Moms are supported and babies grow in their ability to relate to a larger world through these early, nurturing relationships. Whether you’re a parent yourself or simply someone who cares deeply about people, there is a place for you here. Every gesture, every act of kindness—no matter how small—makes an impact. In giving, you may find that you receive just as much in return.
Volunteer Roles at the NEST:
- Live-In Caregiver: Live-In Caregivers at the Nest help create a welcoming, peaceful, and well-cared-for home where expectant and new mothers can feel safe, supported, and valued. Through your presence, encouragement, faith-filled care, and practical help, mother’s experience friendship and steady support as they prepare for and begin the journey of motherhood. For more information on this role, please see Job Postings – Christian Advocacy Society of Greater Vancouver
- Food Preparation & Meal Support Nutritious, home-cooked food is important for a mother’s recovery and it’s a powerful gesture of care and dignity. If you love cooking or baking, this is a beautiful way to use your talents to serve others. Meals don’t have to be fancy—just wholesome, nourishing, and made with love.
- Baby Cuddler Yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like! New mothers at The Nest may need a short break to take a nap, attend an online class, shower, tidy their room, or simply have a moment to themselves. As a baby cuddler, you’ll be giving them that precious time while soaking in baby coos and cuddles. Holding and comforting a baby is a critical part of early development. Your loving arms help foster a sense of security and calm.
- Cleaning Support A clean and organized home makes a huge difference in the emotional well-being of new mothers. Laundry support is incredibly helpful—especially when there’s a new baby producing multiple outfit changes a day! If you’re someone who finds satisfaction in putting things in order, this is a great way to serve.
- Gardening & Outdoor Care Our large backyard is a beautiful space for both moms and babies to enjoy—but it needs regular care. Your work helps create a relaxing and beautiful outdoor sanctuary that our residents can enjoy year-round. This is a perfect role for someone who enjoys working independently and finds peace in nature.
- Labour Support Companion Some of the women who move to the Nest have no partner, doula, or family member available to support them through childbirth. We are looking for compassionate volunteers who are willing to be a steady, calming presence during labour and delivery. This role requires flexibility, emotional resilience, and a deep commitment to being present in one of life’s most sacred moments.
- Parenting Support & Skills Mentorship Not all of us enter motherhood knowing how to change a diaper, soothe a fussy baby, or prepare formula. Some of our residents are learning as they go, often without the kind of intergenerational support that many families have. If you have experience with infants, toddlers, or child development, you could play a valuable role in supporting moms through the basics.
Who Can Volunteer?
Having time to invest in a first-time mom in the first year of her baby’s life is a gift. We need nurturers, coaches, educators and cheerleaders. We welcome volunteers from all walks of life, including:
- Retirees who want to stay active and share their life experience
- Experienced moms who feel called to encourage younger moms
- Students interested in social work, midwifery, or early childhood education
- Anyone with a heart for service and a willingness to learn
What You’ll Gain
“I gained lifelong friendships with women I adore. It makes me feel good to use my experience and nursing knowledge when I share it with the mums. To think that I can help change the trajectory of a mother and child relationship is mind boggling and amazing to me. And who doesn’t love snuggling a squishy baby?” – A volunteer at the Nest
