It Takes a Village to Raise a Child – African Proverb
Community
For the time a woman is in our home, we would not only like to prepare her for parenting but also for having an established network of resources and education for living outside of the home and raising a child. We envision providing financial workshops, parenting and life skills training, social service connections as well as expanding community support for the residents. Our hope would be that each woman has built a bridge to community before leaving the home.
The Nest program is designed with graduation in mind. Moving out in a healthier, more confident state as a whole person is what we dream of for each mom. The million-dollar question is will they find future landlords who will rent to them. Are you open to offering a basement suite at a reduced rate or inviting a mom and her baby to lodge in your home? Maybe you know someone who has a room for rent. We are looking for generous people who will come alongside the mom and her one-year-old for the next stage of their journey. If you have resources, housing, or you are a professional seeking to do pro bono work in the fields of clinical counseling, early childhood development, family and immigration law or life coaching, please connect with us at info@nestmaternityhome.ca.
Financial
The NEST is a new service in the Lower Mainland. As a charity we rely on concerned and caring individuals in our community who would share our desire to see these women supported as they care for their child in the first year of life.
There are several ways you can financially support:
- Donate to the Nest. We opened in 2023 and creating a stable financial base is in its early years. Donations are appreciated.
- Sponsor a woman in the house who may not have income or has greatly reduced income while on maternity leave. For details on how to set-up a monthly contribution for one of the women in this situation please contact our Program Director at 604-731-1122.
- Gift cards that can be used for purchasing diapers, formula or essential baby items.
